As early as Roman times, 2000 years ago, refošk, our indigenous regional grape variety, was often mentioned for its healing effect. In historical records, the Roman Empress Livia Drusilla lived (for that time) an enviable 86 years, presumably (according to various references) due to the consumption of this black grape, which originates from the rocky hills above the river Timava (river in the Trieste coast) on which they could grow so few grapes that only a few amphorae were filled with it. This viticultural location is no different from the viticultural location on our estate. As for Livia, refošk is for us our everyday red wine – serious, strong but also dynamic and lively in its acidity and elegance, which stems from the modest soil, altitude and viticultural location by the sea.
