Šturm

The Šturm family
Three generations: Otmar and Lidija, daughters (Maša and Valentina) and Otmar’s parents (Otmar the Elder and Jožica).

The road to success
On a family estate in Bela krajina, we cultivate about 8 hectares of vineyards in the vicinity of Drašiče

Otmar Šturm Sr. started planting vines in 1968 and became interested in wine. Among other things, he also plants yellow muscat, which was not yet allowed in Bela krajina at that time. In 1983, he received a large gold medal for him at the international wine evaluation in Ljubljana, which means confirmation of the quality of his work and at the same time helps to place yellow muscat among the recommended varieties in Bela krajina.

The current owner, Otmar Jr., took over the business from his father in 1992, at the age of 21, and, unlike him, devoted himself entirely to wine production.

Like his father with a yellow muscat, Otmar Jr. happens to be a Traminer. In 1993, he buys a vineyard from a neighbor without knowing that this illicit variety grows in it. For the first year, it produces an excellent dry strawberry selection and names the wine Forbidden Fruit. Due to its proven quality, Traminer has been a permitted variety in Bela krajina since 2006, but the name Forbidden Fruit for Šturm’s high predicates from Traminer remains.
