Already in the time of the Venetian Republic, 400 years ago, the Istrians were aware that their indigenous variety of Refošk is something special. As well as the Venetians – when the harvest was the best, they named it Renero from Izola and taxed it three times more than other wines. After all, it was this wine that had healing effects every day, so it was reserved for the Patricians and Venetian Doges. And even today the same still applies, as not every vintage is good enough to produce Rener from it, when it is the case that we produce an exceptional wine from a selection of only the best refoška clusters from our vineyards.
